Three years ago entrenched
Town Councilman Don Weeks exited the board room
during a Town Board meeting after inaudibly
muttering that he needed to leave - just moments
later the remaining board members approved the sale
of a parcel of town-owned land on County Route 105
to “William ‘Bud’ Owens and Family” for a measly
$100.
Bud
Owens is Mr. Weeks’ brother-in-law, and Weeks was a
co-owner of the adjacent 6.5 acre property. With
the newly acquired road frontage attached to their
land, Weeks and family quickly flipped the property
to developer Giuseppe DePaulis for $325,000. That
very same night, Weeks and the board voted to exempt
DePaulis from new 3-acre zoning, allowing him to
build an additional 35 houses on his controversial
116-home Henry Farms project off Lakes Road.
Weeks
admitted to being in negotiations with DePaulis
prior to the vote that exempted him from the new
zoning. Despite complaints to the ethics committee,
Weeks got away with his deal. The property now
boasts a bold colorful sign: "Coming Soon:
The Learning Experience." August, 2006
